Psych-Out

Here we have Jack Nicholson breezing through the sixties with a ponytail. Opposite him, and on a mission to meet up with her missing brother, a very attractive deaf girl, who by the way can somehow talk perfectly, falls into a sort of acid wonderland, and gets stuck playing Alice. Also appearing is the ever-lovable Dean Stockwell in full on fake headband hair and spouting some tripped-out philosophies. The music, costumes, and dialogue make this a groovy ride as we are transported to the free love scene. That is, if you like groovy, because unfortunately, that is it. The sub plots were barely resolved, and the concluding message was typical. All in all, I still enjoyed the camp factor.

Bane

From the moment I started watching this movie, I couldn't stop. I went into this one not knowing anything but the synopsis, and I would recommend that to anyone. The only reason I even decided to check it out was because it had been referred to as very disturbing. That was a little exaggerated imo, but the movie was entertaining in many other ways. Firstly, the cg was kept clean and minimal. It has enough decent gore to satsify any horror junkie as well. The plot is driven psychologically and invokes a broad range of emotions from the viewer. While not a perfect film, it definitely will pull you in as it slowly reveals the story. The ending isn't as strong as the atmosphere and mood that it carries until the closing, but it is a little different. The 2000's saw a lot of good horror from the UK; this IS one of them, despite the low budget and sometimes amateur feel from a few members of the supporting cast.

Chocolate

The leading lady trained four years to pull off the incredible stunts displayed in this crazy piece of art. The effort she put into the character really shines through, making it an essential watch for anyone into fight films. This great thai movie unravels a beautiful and tragic story of a young autistic woman's life, her struggle to be happy, and the journey she takes to avenge her mother. The central character learns moves by watching them, allowing us to see many styles put into action, including a nice traditional japanese twist in the choreography at the end. Mainly made up of kickboxing, the sequences are often amazing as is expected of Pinkaew's films. They did throw a little cg in the mix here and there, but most of the time it added to the excitement.

Dead Summer / Deadhunter

SOV time! If you dont know what Im talking about, then I must suggest that you look elsewhere. Although both selections suffer from the unfortunately all too common audio problems found in these micro budget films, each piece had its own personality. Too often do I happily come across these indy efforts just to find a lack of originality. The first movie gets points for using the quote you gotta purdy mouth in reference to a rednecks zombie concubine, and also for filming the f word no less than 420 times! It is not really over the top when it comes to the gore, which is kind of refreshing, and the make-up wasnt overdone either. However, if you want something more along the current trends of the underground, then start with the second one. It is set in Spain, hence the title: Deadhunter Sevillian Zombies. It has ridiculous blood capsules, slimy guts, trench coats, horrible sound effects, and of course puke, but, it also gets points for zombie death by a Bad Taste vhs. It also has a severely disjointed feel, probably due to poor editing and the obvious want to make the best zombie movie ever. It plays as more of a funny series of zombie vignettes, with an overall slightly cliched theme. These are very different films in a lot of ways. The second is subtitled but that saves us from missing some audio later in the track. If you like zombie indy SOVs, definitely check these out.

Bizarre

So much I want to say about this one. For starters, not for everyone! Not for hardly anyone really. Then who is this film for?? The weird, the eccentric, the odd, oh I got it. Anybody who knows the definition of bizarre. Yea its flipping bizarre! Here we dive into a narrow perspective from a brittish man during the late sixties. This truly one-sided film is not strange in the usual exploitative way. Its odd because it is an exploitation of a sexploitation film. Stay with me a minute here. It makes fun of those kinds of films while making one of those films. Its really a chauvinist perspective masquerading as a mindless skin flick. It draws you in and attempts to coerce you into awakening to womans wickedness. Ah, the end of the sixties! The theme of the film is not the secrets of sex, but battle of the sexes, and it is actually stated throughout the piece. Judging by the ending, if i was tripping, it would probably make me hate women. The message of the film is: women are good for one thing, and you have to keep em in line. (lol) Plays like a propaganda film! Well if any of this sounds interesting to you, then you must know, I thought it was damn funny. With tons of subtlety and symbolism, its a toungue-in-cheek series of vignettes worthy of being brittish. Just dont fall for the central theme!

Orgy of the Dead

I didn't think about writing a review for this, and now I can't help myself. I own this movie, and with that being said, I tried to sell this once for about 6.00 on amazon. Could not get rid of it. I bought it to see why Ed Wood had the reputation that he did. ***SPOILER*** the movie in nine words: stale topless boring 1960s dances one after the other. Hey if you're still curious, then you can have my copy.

Body Parts

Well this isnt so much a horror movie, but a black comedy. However, I enjoyed this cheesy canadian effort of putting a new spin on the slashers from the 80s. Its a silly mystery set in a strip club, named oddly enough, body parts.^^ Instantly the mood is set for their corny dialgoue and often original one-liner puns. The information listed here for the film is actually for the movie: harold robbins' body parts. So, the copyright is really 1990, the release date 1994, & the (dvd) troma release(?) 1999. The director is michael paul girad. I can only imagine how fun it must have been to make this. It has a slow pace after the opening scene, but gets amped with lots of nudity. I laughed. Salud!

Bound

On, the, edge, the whole way through. Tilly gives an amazing performance as do her co-stars Gershon and Pantoliano. This mob story kept me guessing, which doesn't much happen anymore. It's about love, honor, fidelity, and manipulation. A very fun film, especially for those of us who are open-minded. Its hard to find a film that is funny, intriguing, and beautiful. The Wachowskis pulled it off.

They Call Me Macho Woman

Firstly, the woman on the cover is not in this movie whatsoever. The starring macho woman is thin and blonde. (hot factor equals 2 of 5 for me) I still liked it as it has lots of blood, medium grade gore, and super cheese. Not the best of the eighties, but def not the worst. The one-liners are ridiculous as is most of the action, but thats what is so funny! Nearly four star funny.

The Midnight Meat Train

~minor spoiler~ Ryuhei Kitamura directs this horror tale based on Clive Barker's short story of the same name. (from vol. 1 of his Books of Blood series) It starts out as a strong slasher: lots of blood, gore, and suspense. For that I would have given five stars. The last twenty minutes changed everything, and killed my love for the film. Seems Barker can't leave out his love for dark supernatural fantasy worlds, even when it's going good. Had it of stayed realistic, a very awesome job btw by Vinnie Jones, I wouldn't have walked away pissed off. Maybe knowing this much, you might be able to enjoy the good parts.(lots of bloody parts) Still, I welcome anything written by Barker, and, I can't wait for the next four adaptations that are supposedly in the works.

Senior Skip Day

This is a blatant remake of Ferris Bueller. There are lots of references to it, and the plot follows the same story. It's supposed to center around the average nerd, who (you guessed it) is a fan of Bueller. He pulls off his party (of course) and pulls out some good laughs. Worth a watch, but not worth owning in my opinion. Lundy nailed his Ferris impersonation, but often tended to over-act.

Army of the Dead

I'm going to start by saying it has a worthy premise; even even if it's not such a new one. I also need to state that you don't pick up this movie blind. It's a cheesy b with horrible cgi. One thing that is cool though, and the reason for my rating, is the skeleton army. (who actually were cgi too) It ended up being worth the fast-forwarding just to see them in action. Not much else to it. I counted 3 kills on-screen, although there are lots of bloody ones off. Apparently it costs too much to have the skeletons in the same frame as the actors. (whom btw just as you'd expect can't act, but are okay for eye-candy)

Grave of the Fireflies

This has to be one of the heaviest movies my heart has ever felt. Be ready to crumble into tears, and digest this film for a while. War stories are always hard to watch, but this one delves deep into the psyche, provoking many themes and ethical questions. It is a look into pride, compassion, leadership, regret, remorse, grievance, and the need to be free. The animation is also stunning and there are lots of tiny references you may miss upon first glance. Watch carefully and a beautiful story will unfold.

Tokyo Godfathers

Satoshi Kon hits another home-run right out of the park! Tokyo Godfathers is an A+ film. Beautiful animation, and a roller-coaster of highs and lows. I smiled, I cried hard, and I laughed harder. What a story! This is one of those movies where every scene has its place and is essential. Make sure to clear enough time for this one, after the first five minutes, I was glued.

Woodchipper Massacre

This cheesy black comedy is a riot, if you turn down the sound. The female lead's voice is excruciating. Try and remember that these are family members, recorded on a camcorder right off of the shelf, and a $400 budget. The budget amounted to editing costs and the rental of the woodchipper! The director stars (yea) and I liked his interview in the extras. (as long as you can put up with the host :| ) The fact that this guy got his film on the national circuit is inspiring. Interesting watch for wanna-be filmmakers!

Rabid Grannies

First of all, the title should be a warning for any average movie-lover; its not for everyone. These grannies get possessed, resulting in lots of oozing red carnage. Suffering from the same plague other low budget films from the era did, Rabid Grannies starts off slow. Real slow. (especially compared with the second half) I actually skipped ahead a little, and, Im glad I did. I ended up with a nice addition to the weekend, finding cheese and british humor. They put good monster make-up on the old bags, supplied generous gore, and showed me few cool deaths. Job well done!

Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein

Being a fan of all those Universal monster movies, I have to say that this is my favorite A & C picture. Most know what to expect from the duo, but, just in case you dont, prepare yourself for slapstick humor, clever puns, and one-liner hilarity. This time Bud and Lou meet the wolfman (L. Chaney reprising his role), frankenstein (played by G. Strange), and Lugosi as the count. Lots of 40s awesome-ness in one film! Also, dont miss V. Price in short cameo at the end as the invisible man.

Otis

I was kind of disappointed by Otis. The characters are interesting and the premise is worthy. What i found though, was a snoozefest. It does have some really laugh out loud moments, but with a bunch of boring thrown between. Maybe I was expecting too much. But with all the buzz flying around, I thought this would be a worthy effort. Dont get suckered, its an okay movie. Maybe knowing this youll have more fun with it than I did.

The Food of the Gods

70s cult flick, complete with horrible acting, pale lighting, and out-dated theories. The giant chickens rock, but it seems their budet ran out pretty quickly. Not the best, not the worst. I wasted some time here. This is definitely for fans of the genre.

The Curve

Also known as Deadman's Curve, this is a teen thriller starring Keri Russell from felicity, the hot Michael Vartan, and the awesomely funny Matthew Lillard. They all do a great job, but the plot isn't exactly new here. It was a topic in the news at the time. Dead Man on Campus has the same plot, but is way funnier. If I hadn't seen so many movies, maybe I wouldn't have seen the twists coming from so far away either. However, the end is pretty good and kinda unpredictable. Reminds me a little of Heathers. If you liked that, give this one a shot.

Bad Guy

This one has such an odd story, it's nearly worth it for that alone. Some elements are unrealistic, and in this type of film, that is crucial. It's not all thumbs down though. The acting is superb, as are the atmospheric settings. It is a movie that will stay with you, and has a bad guy you can't easily forget; it kind of grew on me. One thing about it, it will definitely hold your attention.

The Brown Bunny

Only for extreme fans of Gallo. I actually thought this was his first movie. It def seems that way. It's a recent one though; what was he thinking? He prob wanted to show off the most unattractive big member that I have ever seen. LOL Lots and lots of drawn out boring driving sequences that are supposed to help tell the story and convey his mood. We get it Gallo but it needed editing. The only thing that saved the movie was that I liked half of the songs. The other half was fast-forwarded and I didn't miss a thing. The plot actually does get summed up and turns out to be a story of addiction (both drug and sex), that is pretty good. But I think he got carried away, and let his ego get the best of him.

Paprika

Wow wow wow! I love this movie. Not only is the artwork top-notch, the story ranks up there with the best I've ever seen. Awesome concept and a great score. Fans of Perfect Blue or Spirited Away take notice!

Wild Zero

Very awesome japanese zombie flick featuring Guitar Wolf in some cheesin' tounge-in-cheek madness. Nice experimental shots and plenty of creative zombie kills. Tons of references to romero's world, rock, and pop culture in general. It has good old school fx and one kicka** lead lady too. No reason to not rent this indy laugh-fest!

Island of Dr. Moreau: Director's Cut

Michael York and Burt Lancaster star in this version of the sci-fi tale. Awesome monster make-up transform this one into a movie not to be missed by fans of the sort. It features a mad scientist playing with genetics who tries to uncover answers about our evolution and natural instincts. He creates, he splices, and has no remorse, just striving for the next breakthrough. Great evil job by Lancaster!

Microwave Massacre

gem? no. funny? most of the time. Lots of dry humor, gore (yay!), and oh wait, thats it. Entertaining if youre bored and like the genre. I have to admit there were some pretty lol moments. Its a nice movie to have playing in the background.

Bio Zombie

This CHINESE film from hong kong is a really funny b flick. Lots of references to the masters. This is one you have to watch a couple of times to catch it all. And definitely watch it with the "engrish" subtitles the second time at least. Make-up is cheap but they redeem themselves well. Good-acting too for this type.

Taboo

I really dug the story, humor, fighting, and lighting in this one. Takeshi "Beat" Kitano is one of the stars too. :) He does a good job. If you have an open mind and like samurai stories, then you will probably like this movie set in a school for warriors.

Untitled #1

Three minutes of wtf. That pretty much sums it up. I wonder if the director so much as viewed its entirety before release. It is an excerpt from a bigger work. It prob had a bigger meaning about life and evolution. How did this make it to the compilation? This cant be considered On The Edge in 2008.

Teat Beat of Sex

Yeah, its bizarre, I guess. Ive come across that word a lot in the reviews. I dont really agree. Its more of a woman just telling the truth. With the lack of censorship now days, you would think it wouldnt be such a big deal for the artist to leave all her taboos at the door. But I think it is b/c of the fkg double standard stereotype, that this is harder for people to swallow. I thought it was hilarious. Maybe a little exaggerated, but funny. Maybe she has more probs than the average woman. haha

Severance

The brittish office meets 'lost on vacation in the woods' slasher. Very typical plot. What was different was that it paid a homage to the 80s style. It has some real hilarious moments too. You get the whole played out equation. (fk up, prude, nerd, loser, hero, and boss) But then they tweak it a little, turning it into an enjoyable and quite refreshing submission into the genre. ---nice fx, black humor, predecessor references, solid production, decent cast, and enough gore to go around- def rec

Teeth

Wow. I had to pick up my jaw every time an unsuspecting member was ripped from a body. I love this indy female perspective horror comedy. It plays off a very real ancient myth. Nice production, awesome fx, black humor, modern philosophy. Could have gained the last star with a better cast.

Girls School Screamers

This is an average slasher at best. The killings are mostly off screen and set to a very slow pace. All the elements from the typical 80s brew were there. It had a good atmospheric feel to it. The lack of blood and gore (and nudity) makes it seem earlier than it was, which is disappointing. Oh well. See it only if you are a fan of the genre and cant find anything else to satisfy your urge.

Sublime

Firstly, varying from the general consensus, I thought most of the acting sucked. (but protagonist was decent) Actually, it was probably the direction. Something was off the whole movie. I wanted to give up until about 75% through. It's very cliche and the twists were obvious. The ending was a disappointment you could see a mile away. With everything that was bad, for some reason I pushed on. Some of the ideas struck a chord I could relate to. It is in every respect a drama. It has a little blood and gore, but that's as far as the horror goes, other than the stuck in a freaky hospital story scare. _~so tired of the fads~_ 3 is all it's getting _ and only because it held my attn

Graduation Day

This is good for how early and cheaply made it was. It has an interesting enough concept and a few creative kills. The effects are standard for the time, nothing too bloody, nothing too fancy. What I enjoyed was seeing Linnea Quigley so young. Also, it is super cheesy and a very typical slasher. It brought me much delight. Recommended for fans of the genre.

High School High

I always liked this title. Its a bit goofy and a definite spoof comedy. It plays on Dangerous Minds and films of the such. Lovitz is usually hit and miss with me, but I think he did a good a job here. The movie has some funny moments, especially when the "kids" take over the dj booth at the school dance. Rhinestone cowboy sounds a whole lot better scratched.

Dead Man on Campus

I have seen this one several times. It's a bleeping hilarious black comedy about screwing up college due to some heavy smokage and slacking off. Lots of quotables and the plot IS funny. "This is Bill Bill Gates!!!! I need your brain!" Sorry, couldn't help myself. This movie is great and oh so quotable!

Surf Nazis Must Die

Hey I got an idea, lets steal the lame plot from the warriors and troma-tize it. We all know what to expect from troma. Bad movies aside, this was excruciating boring and cliche. Yes, its horrible!!! Good luck.

Alone in the Dark

This is a nice little cult slasher starring Martin Landau and Donald Pleasence as escapees from a sanatorium. (the insane asylum formula) Not a lot of blood and gore, but it has it's own charm. Love the ending! Don't miss Tish and Snooky perform with the sick f*cks. Truly an 80's movie.

Day of the Dead

It's obvious the title was added to pull people in; it's not a remake. It's pretty average as far as zombie flicks go. Fish face, I mean Suvari, stars. The cast could have been better, the fx, the story... it was average. I finished it in one sitting, but didnt walk away with a memorable experience.

Quick and the Undead

This one blows even with fast forward. No killer zombie cowboy, just crocodile dundees little weirdo brother whose acting abilities are worse than his. This is more of an action/western moviie(think Eastwood) than it is a zombie one. Plot holes abound, and the lame fx only subtract from the amateur cast. AND its friggin boring to boot.

20 Million Miles to Earth

The effects def arent to be missed, nor does the story suffer. Nice kitschy 50s sci-fi. The monster is mesmerizing, and actually in most scenes. You dont have to wait until the end here. What creature feature can boast that? rec for fans of the genre

Ramones: Raw

A lot of concert footage! Is it me or is this rare for docs? Poor quality, but not as bad as some bootlegs Ive enjoyed. Well put together in my opinion; humorous and fun. recommended

Dead Leaves

Seems like a pilot on a side-project that got shelved in the early nineties. Awesome animation (out-there) but no story. If you know not to look for one, then you can sit back and enjoy the nonsense. It is beautifully drawn, albeit kinda cheap, especially since it really was made in 2004. A bit on the pointlessly raunchy side so don't let kids view it.

The Doom Generation

I watched this for mcgowan, which prob turned out the worst performance on the set. I couldn't figure out if she was just still learning, or really didnt have anything to work with. The dialogue was meant to be crude and funny, but was just amateur. It seems they tried to make natural born killers mixed with a little pulp fiction or something. None of the high goals they seemingly set for this movie completed fruition. Everything felt so weak. The plot went nowhere, the characters didnt change or grow; they didnt even make that the theme. The end was pointless but supposed to be shocking. What a waste of time! 3 stars just for rose ;)

Cartoon Noir

The title is a little mis-leading. Firstly, these are not cartoons, it's a collection of different mediums of animation. These are dark films mostly citing observances and reflections of ourselves. This is not film noir. No crime drama, no 40's to 50's. It is noir as in black au france. That said, I love this collection. The mannequins were my fav. (most likely influenced by svankmajer) I'm not a fan of pitman, so, if you're thinking joy street is the best one this disc has to offer; think again. I almost skipped this collection b/c of all the reviews naming joy st their fav. In my opinion, the message there was a good one, but I have never liked the animation. It bores me. (her art is nice though) The other films are either beautiful, thought-provoking, or both. A wonderful and eclectic set.

Sphere

As a book, one of my favorite; as a movie however, its a little lacking. First off, this movie tries to stick to the book for the most part. It actually hurt the film in this situation. What wasnt kept however, was the good stuff. The movie made no sense, and Im telling you, the book actually did. You could understand why stuff was happening, and what the characters were motivated by. Oh well. I upped an extra star b/c it was a good idea to bring this title to the big screen. What a flop though!

Wedding Daze

Directed by Michael Ian Black, this teen crap movie twists into something enjoyable. It turns spoof so you can forget what youre watching. That is until the cherubs fly back in and sprinkle love all over the room. Sometimes this movie felt like an american pie sequel. Dont know what that was all about. Worth watching if you dig the directors humor. (and i do) Be warned though, this is still a failed effort. Funny and lame; weird mix.

Reno 911!: Miami

I couldn't find a five star review for this one, so here goes. I thought it was hilarious, but no one agrees with me. ~that's okay. *sniffle* It's simple: if you really like the show, then you will like the movie. It's over the top, way over compared to the show. The nudity in this movie is scary, someone let's it all hang out. I would tell you who, but I think it's funny that your eyes may fallout and explode like mine. cheers for cheap laughs :D

Zombie Death House

This movie would be a lot better if the first half was worth watching in the slightest. And as noted before, the zombies look terrible. There are scenes that look okay. Its mostly unintentionally laughable, but thats what I liked. The sound fx are great. (and late) Really, just skip the first half, there is no story. I turned it off the first time, forgot about it, and then turned it back on later to play in the background. (the name made me wonder to the point of obsession where the zombies were) The second half gets the 3 stars.

Offerings

Seems stale, but is actually one of the better flicks to submerge from the paperthin 80's slasher equation. This was always a fav of mine. Very dated, but nice makeup. The backstory is sad. It has a pumpkinhead feel in the beginning, mixed with a lot of michael myers. A mentally ill patient escapes then slices and dices. The tagline at the end of the trailer pretty much sums it up; "Remember him, before he dismembers you!!!"

Plaga Zombie: Mutant Zone

Fans of big budget hollywood blockbusters back away. This awesome gore fest looks like a school project, but is bleeping hilarious. Somebody needs to give this team more moola. References galore, crude humor, knock em dead one-liners, I'm gonna have to burn, I mean buy! :)

Black Jack: The Movie

The movie stays true to the series. It has an interesting plot, and good animation. If your only exposure to Black Jack has been the american version of the series, then dont write this off. Unlike that release, this one is coherent. If you liked the series, then def watch this. ~and don't miss the Astroboy cameo

Quantum Leap: Season 1

Shame on you if you've never seen at least one episode. Bakula & Stockwell were made to work together. You feel everything Sam goes through, and find yourself cheering him on. Your hand twitches from wanting to smack Al, even though he's hilarious. Yes, every single episode is cheesy but I loved every minute. Few sci-fi series stick true to the paradoxes presented with hypothetical time-traveling, AND remain relaxed and witty. I used to watch this every chance I got. Now I'm watching them over just for the sheer pleasure.

Howling VII: New Moon Rising

More like redneck mystery western complete with honky tonk karaoke, this one has no fx. Not worthy to even call itself a howling sequel. (and most of them are horrible anyway) If for some reason you're delirious one day, think twice, really.

Cat Soup

One twisted humorous trippy mix. This short film is a dark visual masterpiece you won't want to take your eyes off of. When it started I was thinking, "aww, cute kitties, nice graphics." Suddenly I found myself in a delightfully demented little world. Not sick; but not for kids, the whole way through.

Sword For Truth

From 1990 you have a decent b anime that really does look like a pilot. Not released until 1998 in the US, it seems somebody lost the story on the way, if there ever was one. The plot barely trods along until it just ends. On the other hand, some scenes show the lack of budget, but some are okay. Lots of bloody (er, murky??) deaths. It's half a** entertaining if you're bored.

Frankenhooker

Ultra cheese and sleaze packed with one-liners and bad-acting equals a memorable horror comedy. Although not the best, def not the worst. Even though it has a lot of lame effects with hardly any blood, even with a power drill, and they use fireworks for explosions complemented by cheap electric effects, somehow, it makes up for it. With all that's terrible, the story is still funny. Recommended for b fans. Don't miss the brief flying hooker leg sequence!

The Return of the Living Dead

This fine piece of cinematic silliness remains on my top ten of all time favorites, and I watch a lot of different genres made in the US as well as international. The theme alone is one of the best. It has awesome effects (specimens cut in half coming to life) and is utmost ha-larious. punk rock

Return of the Living Dead 2

I feel obligated to defend this fun film. It is in a lot of ways a spoof of it's predecessor. It has awesome effects and is absolutely hilarious at times. It captures 80's culture perfectly. If you can't enjoy this movie, you might consider lightening up a little. Just a thought ;)

Who's Camus Anyway?

This movie doesn't fall into the mainstream category, but it is full of pop culture. There is an interesting plot, and a few entertaining sub diversions. It also kept a sense of humor throughout. The acting is decent and in my opinion, was well cast. As mentioned before, a lot of what is going on is left to the material referenced. Good if you are familiar, but not so if you aren't.

Wai Lana Yoga: Beginners Workout

With several years of practice, Wai Lana's instruction remains an inspiration to yogis and newbies alike. Her tv series was definitely the best 20 min workout you could ever ask for, yoga or otherwise. The dvd series however, has an odd layout. To get the benefits from the postures, you must take it slowly and only do what you can. Don't just let the workout play. GO TO EXTRAS AND DO THEM AT YOUR PACE. When I am out-of-shape, I will try to do half of the postures, the ones I am comfortable with. The postures will gradually get easier while you get stronger, more focused, and aware of your body and its environment. As long as you breathe the way your are supposed to and stay disciplined, your mind will clear and you will become content with the world little by little. The benefits make a long list and seem endless. And with a backdrop so beautiful you can really feel closer to nature. It's the closet I can get anyway while being tucked away in an apartment in the middle of the city.

Orgazmo

Hilarious! I can't imagine how anyone could hate this movie. Out of their heads and onto film, Matt and Trey were able to shoot a lot of their built-up jokes. lol They wrote and directed this insanely funny film. They only starred in BASEketball.

Alice

This film offers an awesome wonderland of nightmarish oddness, surreality, and twisted Freudian influenced cinematography. He was actually banned by the commies for several years from making films all together. A delightfully dark take on the old tale, Alice delivers a dream-like trip. Stop-motion animation at its best; Svankmajer's work is always fun to watch. He weaves live-action and interesting sound effects into the story seamlessly. However, I think you have to like this kind of flavor to enjoy the treat.

Sick Sex

Straight up realistic. I wanted to smack the guy. Instincts always get you in trouble. A bit too real for me, I have one of these dudes at home. It's nice to know someone else feels my pain.

Dead and Breakfast

This zombie/horror spoof was pretty funny. Lots of splatter and gore, great deaths and exploding heads. It even has a hillbilly narrator and a comic book type animation sprinkled through. Despite wanting to shoot that cowboy about midway, I enjoyed the film. Btw Portia de Rossi has one tiny scene.

Succubus: Hell-Bent

Had potential, a little anyway. Had a lot of filler, and was for the most part boring. Dialog was lame and reeked of the nineties. Cast was weak. Dont waste your time.

Creature

This movie is fun to waste a little time in. Plot is weak, acting is weak; but it's nice to lose yourself in an atmospheric low budget sci-fi horror thriller every now and then. (nice gore but not enough) Yes a little of everything, so better than your average camp fest. Gotta love the 80's

The Dirty Dozen

Not just an awesome tactical bullets and bombs war film, those Dirty Dozen make a great comedic escape. Excellent cast! Marvin and Bronson especially give a+ performances. This a three-part movie: 1. plot is laid out (hollywood in the 60's) 2. hilarious let's get to know (and love) the characters 3. cool nazi-kicking scenes with sad overtone ...This film is entertaining to say the least. DEF RECOMMENDED for any movie buff

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

This film is mediocre at best. Great idea. Great cast, with the exception of the female lead. Atmospheric scenes, funny references, cool killer. Whats weird is that the tone changes drastically in the last half hour, but not for the better. They just couldnt pull it off. The twist was obvious, and I lost interest. Also; the FX werent anything special.

Cannibal Holocaust

This is a crazy movie that's very hard to sit through. It seems the director wanted to go down in history as the dude who showed everything. Maybe, Deodato needed a reason to shoot graphic scenes; either out of a longing to be famous, or his own twisted perversion. Although, this movie within a movie within a movie is sometimes okay and even beautiful (nice closeups of wildlife), I would never recommend it to anyone. It wasn't worth it! It does however, reveal the raw side of our instincts, the very foundation we come from. Nice to be reminded, even if it's misguided.

Fruits Basket

Love, love, love this series. I wish I hadn't waited so long to view it. Fruits Basket was highly recommended by several fans of the genre. Now I am doing the same. It's story is unique but still is easy to relate to. It is a little bubblegum (in a good way), and has many interesting characters (who don't always get along). Eight thumbs up!

Left in Darkness

This story was different, so I gave it an extra star. The beginning was boring and the twist was obvious early on. The movie did pick up, so you will want to watch the rest if you wait it out. Also this seemed similar to horror TV, like Buffy or something. I guess if you like that stuff, you should check this one out.

Flesh for the Beast

Some of this movie is decent. It has potential. The effects are worse than a lot of low budget films which take away from the scare factor. It is cliché to the max, and without something to save it, this movie falls to the bottom of my list. I stopped watching it at the ~ooh I'm a scary prostitute ghost with a halloween mask on~ part. It appears this movie didn't know where to go: scary or gory. It ended up somewhere in the middle, with a bunch of nothing.

My Dead Girlfriend

HEED THE WARNINGS! This movie is boring. The common extra can act better than these people. I see the effort. I see the story. If the director had cut everything but 10 minutes (and thats what it needed), it would probably still suck. All the jokes were lame too. Sorry.

Skinned Alive

Yes, this movie is bad. Yes, it has no plot. ~~~However, the gore is mostly well done, the acting's not as terrible as some, and it's funny. It is def a memorable no budget romp. If you like to watch senseless murdering rampages commited by trash-talking psychos, then you might be able to waste some time here. I did.

Night of the Demons

Honestly, this is one of my favorite movies. This film stuck with me forever. I watched it as a kid and it scared the hell out of me. Some of it still does: Angela gliding down the hallway toward you. Great cheap effect. (skateboard) Stuff like this is missing from new horror movies. They all rely on computers now. Oh well. Great demonic possession, really bloody gore, captivating hostess, good soundtrack, memorable one-liners ___ everything horror fans crave! if u like this 2 is good in it's own 90's way, but never attempt to watch 3,,,

Blood Sisters

I had to give this movie 4 stars b/c it kept me interested. It is a typical 80s slasher, which I like. No, its not the 2003 movie of the same name, luckily for me. (1987) Very bloody (but cheesy-looking) with low grade gore. Special effects lack too.

Brazil

I almost re-watched this movie after it was over. It is witty and creative. One of my fav's. Try to hold on, it picks up and is def worth it. Seems you either love it or hate it.

A Clockwork Orange

For those of you who "didn't get it", I recommend turning on captions. [warning: antiquated form of cockney] The language used throughout the entire movie is beautiful on it's own. (thank-you Burgess) Kubrick, who is known for his wonderful cinematography and disturbing ideas, really peeked in this one. Little Alex (McDowell) also throws a stunning performance. This is nothing short of a masterpiece, but you may have to view it again to catch everything. To me, this movie never gets old.

Dead Alive

Such bad reviews for the best zombie solution ever. Ripe with gore and humor, Dead Alive is definitely not boring. I think Jackson needed to take the energy he used in this movie to the next slew of films he made. If you like cheesin' visual masterpieces created from a low budget, then this is for you. It's a light-hearted but tragic slice of death drenched in red sauce. Yummy!

Bad Taste

Best B-movie of all time in my opinion. (nearly a tie though with his gore fest Dead Alive) Extremely creative and hilarious, although not for people who can't relax. It is british/aussie, so you have to know a little about the culture too. Jackson co-stars and does a great job. I wish he had never given up the genre, but I guess everybody needs money. It can make you squeamish at times,,, very awesome! Also: the original cover only has one finger on it. lol it was better

2001: A Space Odyssey

There is not much to say that hasn't already been said. I agree it is slow in the beginning but absolutely worth the wait. Stunning, beautiful, thought-provoking. It's all true. This one deserves another watch, or two, or three...

Savage Harvest

Seriously, this is the worst piece of crap I have ever tried to watch. I am a huge b-horror fan, but I could not stand to even fast forward this one. Every copy produced should be blown up and buried in lava. Sorry if u liked it really.

Howl's Moving Castle

Quite an amazing animated tale! Beautifully done like all of Miyazaki's work. Here he sets many fantastical backdrops for some very interesting characters in this wonderfully contrived world of imagination. I think this classic might be my favorite of his creations.
